Mission: LAU is committed to academic excellence, student centeredness, civic engagement, the advancement of scholarship, the education of the whole person, and the formation of leaders in a diverse world.

LAU began as a women’s college in 1924. The university expanded over the decades, catering to the growing educational needs of Lebanon and the Middle East. Today LAU has around 8,200 students enrolled in its seven schools. LAU boasts 19 centers and institutes. Dynamic and distinguished faculty members research and teach in a wide range of academic disciplines on campuses in Beirut and Byblos. 

LAU was granted provisional charter by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York in 1950 and absolute charter in 1955. In Lebanon, LAU operates as per a governmental decree. 

LAU is governed by a Board of Trustees that oversees the primary functions of leadership, stewardship and audit. A Board of International Advisors provides counsel to the Board of Trustees, president, and senior management. 

Institutional Accreditation: LAU is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (CIHE–NEASC). 

Program Accreditation: 

1- The Doctor of Pharmacy program is the only one outside the USA that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). 

2-LAU’s five undergraduate Engineering programs and the B.S. in Computer Science program are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). 

3- The baccalaureate program at the School of Nursing is accredited by the Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education (CCNE). 

4- LAU’s Bachelor of Architecture degree is officially recognized by the French Government. In addition, the degree is currently in the process of being accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), an organization that accredits all architecture programs in the United States. 

5- The Adnan Kassar is a member of the European School of Business has received eligibility to initiate the pre-accreditation process by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Role in Project
LAU shall take an active participation to the TLQAA+ project and will assume in particular the following roles:
o WP1: Leads the workpackage on NQF Descriptors and global Indicators
o WP4: Supports the preparation of a guide for the establishment and development of an IQA
o WP7 : Take an active role in the specification of standards and guidelines for specific programmes in life sciences
o WP9: Have two or more experts trained on external review
o WP10 : Prepare self study reports on one or more programmes and participate to the evaluation of peers programmes
o WP11-13 : Participate in the dissemination efforts and provide feedbacks and be a proposition force for the project management and its quality assurance
