USEK is a private Catholic University founded in 1938 by the Lebanese Maronite Order. The University counts eight thousand students on roll today in the main campus in Kaslik and its three regional centres in the North, South and Bekaa. USEK is committed to contribute to the development of all its students through quality educational programs in conformity with the requirements of the labour market and in close association with scientific research. 

Through the leading role of its Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness Office, USEK is engaged in a Continuous Improvement Process to sustain its future success and its regional and international position in response to the different driving forces from outside and inside institutions. The Office supports the University, helping it to achieve its mission by assessing and improving administrative and academic performance, supporting the various units of the University and providing excellent educational experience for the students. 

USEK was the first university in the region to conduct an Institutional Evaluation Programme by the European University Association –IEP program and later on, with Evalag, an institutional accreditation that was granted to USEK in October 2012 for a period of five years. USEK is the only EUA member in the region. The University is currently working on the American Institutional Accreditation in addition to many program accreditation projects in progress.

USEK is committed to capacity building initiatives and faculty development programs such as the delivery of Post Graduate certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education with UK and US universities; thus, playing a key role in training highly-qualified academic staff.

USEK is currently chairing the Quality Assurance Committee at the Association of Lebanese Universities. 

In 2015, USEK was selected to lead the national project Professional Standards Framework for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Lebanese Universities / E-TALEB funded by ERASMUS+.
